Greens Applaud Abu-Jamal Decision
The City Committee of the Green Party of Philadelphia (GPOP, http://www.gpop.org) applauds Seth Williams' decision on December 7 to end the District Attorney office's long fight to impose the death sentence in the case of Mumia Abu-Jamal. This is a huge victory for justice, the result of many years of hard work by many people committed to the cause of justice.

At Green Night Out on December 3, Bob Smith, organizer of Brandywine Peace Community, discussed, "How a non-violent Occupy Movement can challenge the permanent war economy.” Smith explained to the diners that the permanent war economy dates back to Charles (“Electric Charlie”) Wilson, CEO of General Electric, who, in 1950, became the director of the Pentagon’s Office of Defense Mobilization. No one today can remember a time when the U.S. was not at war, a condition which is extremely expensive and never ending. The U.S. military now consumes 60% of President Barack Obama’s discretionary budget for 2012.

Greens support Council’s Equal Benefits Bill #110057
On November 16, Philadelphia City Council’s Committee on Law and Government unanimously passed the Equal Benefits Bill #110057. If it passes the full City Council in early December, this bill will require city contractors to offer the same employment benefits to same-sex partners as are offered to heterosexual couples.

At Green Night Out on November 12 in Philadelphia, Bianca Mugyenyi and Yves Endler, explained to the gathered diners the role in our society played by the automobile. Mugyenyi said that, “We know you already understand how cars are spoiling our environment, but the actual situation is far worse. Cars dominate our physical space, our culture and our economy.”
